I'm starting to plan out my next recording. It will probably be a mix of originals, improvisations, arrangements and pieces by other composers. I made a list...

I'm not really sure yet the order or what. The ones with the * next to them are what I am currently thinking about at the moment but that could change (and probably will).  There are a couple of pieces I would like to finish writing before I make this recording. For example, my 'Techno Guitar.'

The final version of this piece won't be called 'Techno Guitar' but will certainly be something else. Have an idea about a name? Contact me. I suck at naming songs.

I posted the intro to Stairway to Heaven on Instagram today.

I've always loved the song and is fun to play. I decided to just mess around with tremolo and the chords.

My current favorite song is "Wake Me Up" by Avicii.

I mentioned this song a couple of weeks ago and it is still on heavy rotation when I drive around. It is driving my kids mad.

Week of May 8th

I live in Holland, Michigan and we are currently in the middle of Tulip Time. Imagine the most fun you have ever had in your life. This would not be that time.

I have managed to post a couple videos on Youtube...

It's a good warm up exercise. As soon as I get done here I will post the tab/sheet music on my Free Music page.

I love improvising so much. Finally I posted a little techno guitar piece. I've been listening to a lot of Avicii lately, since his untimely passing. Very sad.

Not sure if it works with the classical guitar but it was fun to do. Speaking of Avicii...

On a lighter note, I could watch this all day long...

Week of May 1st

I have just a couple days left until school (I teach at Lake Michigan College) is done for the semester and my summer break begins (!!) which means I will be starting up Skype lessons again. I offer lessons in guitar (all styles), music composition, and music theory. We can do one lesson or many lessons, it is entirely up to you.

I love my summers. I get to hang out with my kids, play my guitar and compose a ton of music. I am currently in the process of recording two more albums. I have composed a lot of pieces over the last couple of years and want to get them recorded. That will be one album. I have been doing a lot of improvisations and will probably include them on that one as well. Improv example...

Last year I started a series of laments. I am hoping to finish and record those this summer. I started by composing 12 little sketches and then posting videos on Youtube. Here is the third lament...

From those sketches I am now filling them out. I finished the first one a couple days ago.

Finally, I would like to share with you my favorite guitarist....Kazuhito Yamashita. He plays the guitar with incredible musicality. He is the fastest guitarist I have ever heard in any style. His dynamic range is incredible and what I love the most is his boldness. He plays pieces that you wouldn't normally think would work on the guitar like Mussorgsky's Pictures at an Exhibition...

or Dvořák's New World Symphony. A guitarist worth checking out.

Week of April 22, 2018

Well first off, I've got a new album! It's called, Blue Dragon From Afar.

Blue Dragon Album cover.jpg

It contains improvisations, originals, arrangements (Scarborough Fair among others), and two pieces sung by my daughter, Grace. Here is a bluesy piece she sung about her excitement about going to Great Wolf Lodge....

I was playing my guitar in the kitchen and she just started singing. Totally improved the lyrics!! Side note...she just turned 5 and is very excited about that.

Anyways...the album is available on Bandcamp, iTunes, Spotify, Apple Music and a whole bunch of other places. Check it out!

I have two more albums planned this year. One is a mix of originals and arrangements and another is an album of Laments.

Here are a couple of my more recent videos...

Locomotion comes from my Year of the Guitar Suite. You can download the music/tab for that suite of pieces for free on my Free Music page.

I post a lot of short videos and so I thought it might be nice to post some longer ones. I'm calling them Youtube concerts for now. Lame title, I know. If you have a better suggestion feel free to contact me. While I am on that subject feel free to contact me if you have any questions. Musically related questions are probably the best. I'm not good with 'life advice.'

Anyways...thanks for listening. I work really hard writing and learning music. It is satisfying to know that some people like what I do.
