Skype/Private Lessons available
I offer guitar (acoustic and electric), composition, and music theory lessons via Skype/Facetime or in my home (I live in Holland, Michigan). The lessons cost $25 per 1/2 hour lesson.
What are my qualifications?
I have taught guitar, composition, and music theory for over 20 years privately and at various colleges and universities (Hope College, Grand Valley State University, Ohio State, and Lake Michigan College). I have even won a couple awards for my teaching. I also hold a doctorate in music composition from Ohio State.
What are the benefits of online lessons?
Flexible lesson times. I am available to do lessons 7 days a week at almost any hour (I do try to sleep some). You also don't have to fight traffic to get to a lesson.
How does it work?
I will email you before the lesson to discuss what you would like to work on so that I can prepare any materials that might be needed. The lesson lasts for 1/2 hour over a 35-40 min period. In the beginning we will spend a little time testing mics before the lesson begins.
What will we cover?
Anything you want. There are some basic things that I think all guitarists should know (chords, bar chords, scales, strumming techniques) regardless of style. I try to gear the lessons towards subjects and techniques the student wants to learn.
How often will the lessons be?
Up to you. We can do just one lesson or we can set something up on a regular basis.
Are you a nice person?
I am! One of my teaching philosophies is that the student should feel comfortable and should enjoy themselves. I want the student to feel free to ask me anything.
Please contact me if you are interested and/or have any questions!
